Real Race Drivers To Compete In A Virtual Race For Charity

For the past 3 Decembers, the online MMO racing sim iRacing has hosted the annual Pro Race of Champions. It’s an event in which a field of real world racing drivers do head to head against one another in a pair of races. One on an oval, and another on a traditional circuit, what the Americans call a ‘road course’. 2014 will be no different (well, slightly different, for some reason there’s no road course race this year, probably because the field is largely made up of American stock car, legends and sprint car drivers who are adverse to turning right) and on Wednesday 17th December, the likes of once-upon-a-Toro-Rosso-driver Scott Speed, British F1 and Indycar star Justin Wilson will show up at a virtual Iowa Speedway for a left-turn-stravaganza, the winner sending a cash prize in the direction of their charity of choice.

The race will be available to watch on iRacing’s Twitch channel or on the iRacing website. And if oval racing isn’t your thing, you can watch the entirety of the 2013 iRacing Pro Race of Champions event here, with Late Model stock cars at Iowa Speedway followed by McLaren MP4-12C GT3 machines at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
