Citroen has become the final manufacturer to reveal its rallying machine for the 2017 World Rally Championship season.
We’ve seen the striking Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, monstrous Ford Fiesta WRC and wing-tastic Toyota Yaris WRC, but now we’ve finally found out what Citroen’s rally car for next season will look like.
And it looks remarkably similar to the concept design that was released a few months ago, although it’s a little more toned down.
Despite that, the aero package on the C3 WRC looks downright ridiculous and definitely puts up a good fight against the wings and curves of the Fiesta, Yaris and i20 Coupe.
A host of new rules and regulations have been drafted in for next year’s WRC season to make the series more exciting and get it back to its best.
Cars will be louder, quicker and – as we’ve already seen – more visually pleasing to look at. SO MUCH WING.
The cars are quicker in part due to the new aero regs, alongside an increase in power to 380hp due to a larger 36mm restrictor.
So, we can expect higher top speeds, faster stage times and – hopefully – a better spectacle. Looks wise, it’s certainly an improvement.
Citroen returns to the WRC as a works outfit full-time after skipping this season, completing a selected number of events only in order to focus on the C3 WRC.
The Citroen WRC team is expecting to win rallies on its return, having not released a brand-new car for the series in six years.
Citroen’s been out testing the C3 WRC a hell of a lot, racking up 6000 miles already. Kris Meeke will lead the team, with Stephane Lefebvre also in a C3 WRC.
Craig Breen and Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi will start off in DS3 WRCs and get C3 WRCs to drive mid-season, apparently.
Whether the C3 WRC will bring Citroen back to the top step, we don’t know. But one thing’s for sure… it’s damn good looking!
WRC returns at the end of January with Rally Monte Carlo from the 19-22 of next month.
