Italian Jesus is back 🙌 The former Alfa Romeo driver is set to get two FP1 sessions with Haas later this year at his home race in Monza and at COTA. Let’s gooo, Gio!
Giovinazzi has just wrapped up his first year in Formula E after losing his Alfa Romeo seat at the end of the 2021 F1 season. However, he hasn’t been kept away from the F1 paddock, as he’s also Ferrari’s Reserve Driver alongside Mick Schumacher.
From the outside, this announcement might seem fairly standard. Plenty of drivers have been given FP1 outings so far this year as part of F1’s new initiative to give rookies some time behind the wheel. However, Gio is no rookie 🤔
The man has 62 career F1 starts to his name, which means Haas have chosen to give him a chance and not been forced to.

With rumours that Mick Schumacher’s time at Haas might not last beyond this season, this looks like a strategic move from the American team to see how Gio gets on in the VF-22.
F1 silly season continues to go wild!
