A good start put Verstappen in a decent position to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari in the race, but he barely had enough time to settle into a rhythm when his RB14 stopped with a loss of power.
It’s the latest in a long line of reliability issues for the team and speaking from the pitwall to Sky F1 shortly afterwards, Horner didn’t hold back in his criticism.
“We pay multi-million pounds for a first-class, state-of-the-art product and you can see it is well below that. It’s frustrating, [but] we’ve still got Daniel in the race. I’ll let Cyril [Abiteboul] come up with the excuses afterwards.”
That is one unhappy team principal. In fact, the only person who was more upset was Verstappen himself, who dropped a whole load of F-bombs over team radio.
