You’d think McLaren had already screwed Kevin Magnussen enough by leaving it to the last minute to make the Dane their reserve driver last year, but now it appears they’ve reached a new low.
It was revealed this week that K-Mag has now parted ways with his former team, who fired him in the most classless way possible.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, Magnussen revealed that he found out the news from Ron Dennis’s personal assistant… by email… on his birthday.
“I was kind of waiting to hear from them. I didn’t hear anything for a few days, and then, after about a week, when I saw an email from Ron’s personal assistant Justine in my inbox, I had an idea of what it might be.
“It was a short paragraph explaining that there would be nothing for me in the future. It arrived on my birthday, actually.”
Wow.
No matter K-Mag, at least you might actually get to race somewhere next year instead of watching from the garage. That role is now surely reserved for McLaren’s GP2 champion, Stoffel Vandoorne.
