The legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza appears to have been under threat recently and earlier this year there was even talk of the Italian Grand Prix moving to Imola or even being scrapped completely.
Well finally there’s a bit of good news as an agreement has been reached securing Monza’s future, one of the last true old-school circuits that’s been on the F1 calendar since the very beginning.
According to the BBC, although the contract hasn’t been officially finalised yet, Monza will continue to host the Italian Grand Prix until at least 2019.
“Regretfully, legally, we can’t sign it here – but more important is that we have an agreement thanks to our lawyers and we are getting all the small details sorted,” said Bernie Ecclestone.
“There is no problem in having the race here. The contract will be for three years but I hope we are here for 100 years.”
Amen to that.
