The Red Bull drivers had the chance to do so well in the Chinese GP because they took the gamble of pitting for fresh rubber behind the safety car. It worked out brilliantly (OK, not for Max Verstappen…or Sebastian Vettel) but if it was such a good decision, why didn’t any of the other top runners give it a go?
In this video, Mercedes chief strategist James Vowles explains why the team didn’t pit its drivers, and also why the team wasn’t as competitive as it hoped.
We’re absolutely loving these debrief videos from Mercedes. Props to the team for opening things up and making the sport more accessible!
