The FIA have released the list of drivers taking penalties for various engine and gearbox components this weekend – leaving many starting the race at the back of the grid in Spa 😳
The two championship contenders, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, are taking some big penalties, alongside Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher.
Leclerc currently faces a 15-place grid penalty for taking a new energy store and MGU-K with a separate 10-place drop for gearbox changes. The Ferrari will likely face further power unit changes across the race weekend.Â
Verstappen, meanwhile, has taken a new engine, MGU-H, turbocharger, MGU-K and gearbox. This means he will start at the back of the grid, too.
Here’s the full list of penalties for each driver, courtesy of The Race:
Verstappen: ICE, turbo, MGU-H, MGU-K (back of the grid) + gearbox changes (5 places)
Leclerc: MGU-K, energy store (15 places) + gearbox changes (10 places)
Norris: ICE, turbo, MGU-H (back of the grid)
Ocon: ICE, turbo, MGU-H, MGU-K, energy store, control electronics (back of the grid)
Bottas: ICE, turbo, MGU-H (15 places) + gearbox changes (10 places)
Schumacher: control electronics (10 places) + gearbox changes (10 places)
This means we could see an exciting race at Spa, where both Verstappen and Leclerc will be battling to get to the front of the field! It could even raise the chances of a Mercedes double podium or a race win!
What a shakeup this will be!Â
